Social Activities

Employees choose to mix business with pleasure through various events & activites - a great chance to meet and work in a team with other employees they don't know or get a chance to speak to on a day to day basis. The most recent events are at the top of the page, working back to the beginning...

Race Night (Jun 10) - Team Bets on the Gee Gee's!

A new offering/idea turned into a great evening with approx 30 employees going down to a local pub for a night of betting. Random teams were created with approx 5 people in each and each team were asked to bet on 3 horses per race. Jim (an external race oragniser) helped us arrange the evening and provided some real footage of past races. Every race had an allocated 1st, 2nd & 3rd placement with different points allocated to each.

8 Races later we had the winning team - Karen Armytage (Customer Services), Kerri Chambers (Customer Services), Richard Thrower (Internal Sales) & Warren Shermer (MD), they won with a lead of 9 points depsite the calls for cheating - always going to happen when the MD is in the team!!! The team members each took away prizes of chocolate or wine.

Following the main races there were 2 individual betting opportunities for those with a need to part with some real money! The bet was a £1 a ticket and 14 horses to back, the person whose ticket had the correct placing for 1st & 2nd won the entire pot of £28. Sarah Tomkinson (HR Manager) was the lucky winner of the first race and a joint partnership of Emma Rothery (Customer Service) & Alan Doig (Overprinter) won the second.

The evening was a great success with a lovely 'supper' from the pub and the bar flowing - definately one to repeat in the future was the feedback!

Pub Quiz - back due to popular demand!

Back at a local pub, where following the questions, staff tucked into a fantastic warm buffet before the answers were revealed. The winning team 'Our Soles' (pictured) was Richard Thrower Senior Customer Services, Caroline Rhodes Technical Services Supervisor, Mick Haigh Warehouse Supervisor & Chris Lomas IT Manager.

Mick Haigh then went on to win the cash prize from 'Play Your Cards Right' after an epic 25 rounds!

Ten Pin Bowling & Pool Tournament

4 teams again back to the battle of the lanes! A couple of games, a few drinks and a knock-out Pool tournament to finish off the evening.

Football Tournament

In June gne ran an additional event, as above. We gathered together all aspiring Rooney and Ronaldos and mixed up all the teams until 4 games later we had just one employee who had played on all winning sides. Paul Cauldwell, Overprinter was then presented with the winning cup and a again a few celebratory drinks in the bar (I think there's a theme!).

Pub Quiz

With the best turn out so far (nothing at all to do with the event being hosted in a pub!) 8 teams ploughed their way through an excellent buffet, a few drinks and the all important questions. More alcohol was provided for prizes (because we needed more!) and then we rounded off the evening with an impromtu 'Play Your Cards Right' for money. The celebrations continued into the early hours & a promise was made to repeat the event in the future.

Basketball Tournament

A more physical activity this time: our resident referee Bob oversaw the proceedings with a strict eye as all loyalties and most of the rules about contact were left courtside! A great evening completed with a few in the bar - purely rehydration purposes obviously!!!

Ten Pin Bowling & Quaser

gne staff split into 4 teams and began the battle of the lanes! A couple of games, a few drinks and then into the Quaser arena for the battle of the lasers. A great first evening, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
