Thank you for taking the time to visit my web page. Over the next 5 months I will be updating you on my training and preparation progress for my big challenge.
In December of 2008 I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. I was exceptionally lucky as I was diagnosed early minimising the treatment needed. Awareness of the early signs of cancer is critical, and saves lives.
To this end I will be taking part in what has been billed as one of (if not the toughest!) amateur cycling challenges being organised this year in order to raise funds for Orchid Cancer. More details about the challenge can be found on the Cent Cols website.
In summary the event involves ten days in the Alps covering approximately 120 miles per day, an average of 10 mountains per day and climbing to around 30,000 metres. Having just got back on my bike in March following my cancer treatment, gaining the level of fitness required will prove to be a real challenge!
Orchid Cancer Fund is the only UK registered charity to focus entirely on male cancers. The number of male cancer cases is rapidly approaching that of breast cancer cases.There are over 35,000 cases of male cancer every year. One man dies every hour.
