Work Experience at gne
In mid July gne provided a work experience opportunity for 2 young men from St Aidans School...
7th August 2009
In July we offered to help provide a brief insight into the printing and business world for Nick Hare and Matt Goodson during a week long visit at gne.
Our company aim was to enable both Matt & NIck a chance to gain some experience of different aspects of work. In order to achieve this a scheduled plan was created for their week long stay.
During Nick & Matt's time at gne they took part, worked on or created the following:
- Attended & contributed to the on ISO meeting, which covers Quality, Health & Safety & company wide communications
- Helped our Purchasing Department with a stock and raw material project
- Worked with the Accounts Team & learnt about production reporting
- Compiled a website analysis of our competitor's sites
- Worked within the Graphics Department, ultimately learning how to create their own artwork for an envelope
- Evaluated & analysed information and figures for the Sales Team
- Produced a presentation of their website analysis findings & even future recommendations for us to work on!
- Finally they followed their own designs through the Overprinting process & watched the product being produced on site
At the end of their week during a feedback session both stated they had enjoyed the experience overall but in particular had specific highlights...
Nick enjoyed his time in Graphics the most, creating artwork, working with images to create his design and then following this process right through to his finished product. Click here to see!
Matt's feedback showed he enjoyed the ISO meeting with a real mixture of departments and opinions being shared, but had also enjoyed watching his design complete on the final day.
Overall we feel it was a successful week with Nick & Matt helping the company with useful projects and tasks and in turn we provided an insight into the world of work. I distinctly remember both stating with one unanimous vote that it was very tiring, hopefully this will encourage a longer stay in education and an appreciation of 3.30pm finishes!!!
We were touched to receive a thank you from Nick, click here to view.
